SCHOLAR CHERNOR ENGAGES PATIENTS OF MASANGA HOSPITAL IN SIERRA LEONE
Chernor Sierray JALLOH (Class 7)
Scholar Chernor Sierray Jalloh, a staff of the Masanga Hospital Tonkolili, working as a Community Health Officer (Physician Assistant) on Saturday 23rd October, 2021, carried out his capstone project on DEPRESSION: SUICIDE IS NOT AN OPTION among 12 beneficiaries who have been admitted in the hospital for more than a year for various chronic conditions such as; Osteomyelitis, Amputations due to chronic leg ulcers and/or Trauma, Diabetes Mellitus, and Immunosuppressive diseases, in partial fulfillment of the requirements to graduate from ISERH UNDERGRADUATE STUDIES CLASS 7.
After introducing himself, ISERH and the mission of the project, he commenced talks on 'Depression: Suicide Is Not An Option'. An understanding of the topic was elicited among the beneficiaries, for which many brilliant ideas were given by various beneficiaries. The topic was then defined referencing the lecture given by Dr. Samson Femi Aberotimi. A further explanation was made on factors that can trigger or aggravate depression in an individual. This was followed by a concise explanation of remedies that might help in the treatment of depression with emphasis on the fact that depression is the most treatable mental health illness. A conclusion was made on making three (3) things a priority:
1. Recognize and manages overwhelming stress and emotions
2. Stay connected to others
3. Make healthy lifestyle changes.
Having successfully implemented this project, he has hereby fulfilled a part of the requirements expected of him to graduate and get inducted as an ISERH Associate Ambassador, and if all things being equal, he shall have unrestricted access to the resources available on the Ambassadors Portal - starting from Sunday 5th of December, 2021, immediately after their convocation and induction ceremony on the designated platform.
